Activities

The Wauwatosa Newcomers Club is an active organization whose members participate in a variety of activities. Below are descriptions of some of our current activities.

REGULAR ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

Arts & Crafts
Each month, a member volunteers to plan and host a craft project. Members then gather to create these simple but elegant crafts over refreshments and conversation.

Book Discussion Group
This group gathers bi-monthly at a member's home or a local coffee shop to discuss the featured reading.

Bowling League
Yes, we even have our own bowling team! The team meets on weekday mornings during the bowling season.

Dinners Without Distractions
Leave your spouse and kids at home for an evening on the town with the Newcomers ladies! Each month, female members meet for dinner at a local restaurant, sometimes followed by a movie at our beloved Rosebud Cinema.

Games People Play
In Wisconsin's chilly winter season, couples gather monthly at a member's home for a lively evening of board games. As always, refreshments are served.

Play Groups
Currently, there are two playgroups within the club. Parents and their children ages 0 to 2 comprise one group, while the other consists of parents and their children 2 1/2 and up. Groups meet every 2 weeks in a member's home.

Poker Nights
The Newcomer men get together monthly for an evening of poker and conversation. Location rotates at members' homes.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Annual Children's Christmas Party
Every year, we get the Newcomers kids together for food, activities, and a visit from Santa himself.

Annual Adults' Christmas Party
Our annual Christmas party is a much-anticipated event. We gather at a member's home for an evening of fine food, spirits, and holiday cheer. Door prizes, usually gift certificates for local restaurants or other services, are awarded to several lucky members.

Golf Outings
Male and female golf enthusiasts assemble in the early fall at a local course. This event has become so popular that members are planning more regular outings in the future.

Parent-Child Outings
Several times each year, the club sponsors a family-oriented outing. This winter, for example, we are planning a family sledding trip at a local park followed by a pizza party.

Progressive Dinners
Once a year, we hold a progressive dinner, in which members move from home to home enjoying the different courses of a great meal.

Spring Event
Each spring, the club sponsors a child-oriented event. Last year, we held an Easter egg hunt.

Wine Tasting
A fairly new annual event is our wine tasting party. Each member (or couple) is asked to bring a bottle of wine. Members sample each bottle and vote for their favorites. Of course, everyone hopes their bottle will win!

SERVICE ACTIVITIES

Annual Fundraiser
Each year, our Ways and Means Committee organizes an event or activity to raise funds for a charity we select. For example, last year we held a pancake breakfast to raise money for a Wauwatosa woman battling cancer. We had a great turnout and were able to raise several thousand dollars to help this member of our community.

Other Service Activities
We believe in giving back to our community whenever possible. For this reason, service activities are often integrated into our other functions. Gathering donations for local food banks and collecting used books for our library are examples of some of our regular service activities.

As you can see, there is something for everyone in the Wauwatosa Newcomers Club! (And members are always welcome to organize new activities.) We hope this description of our activities has inspired you to learn more about becoming a member.
